That'll Do

This page is a very special part of our site. It is a page dedicated those who have made their journey to Rainbow Bridge, awaiting the day when their human is with them again forever.

Volpe

Many of you know Volpe's story... some may not. We rescued Volpe from Ohio, and when he arrived he was in shock and almost died. We didn't know he was a Haemophiliac. Doctor Shannon Steuart saved his life that day. His foster parents, Clive and June, loved him so much they adopted him. They gave him the very best care for two years. Sadly, after a severe internal bleed, Volpe crossed the bridge on July 10, 2010. He passed gently in the arms of his family, and in the caring hands of our friend and vet, Doctor Shannon Steuart. Go gently over the bridge Volpe. Give our love to those who went before. Now you can play frisbee and ball like all the other dogs. I am sure Shahna would love to throw them for you.

Cleo

Cleo, Volpe's Beloved Sister, deeply missed by Mom and Dad, June and Clive Hickson.

Dear Family and Friends,

I am sending this e-mail to family members and just a few special, animal-loving friends.

Yesterday evening, July 19, 2010, we said goodbye to our dear old dog, Cleo. She had been our faithful companion for over 14 years after we adopted her from Winnipeg Humane Society. Prior to that, we were told, she had been a homeless street dog. At that time she was estimated to be about 11 months old. Throughout her life she was a good, well-mannered, well-behaved and well-tempered dog, and, like her predecessor, Sydney, gave us much pleasure in our home. About 6 months ago the vet diagnosed cancer in her bowels and we knew the end was in sight. She began to deteriorate about one month ago when it became increasingly difficult for us to entice her to eat. Either that or she was one smart dog because for a few days she was eating only pickerel....at about $10.00 a pound.

After we lost Volpe a week or so ago she seemed to go downhill very fast, and for the last three or four days was completely incontinent, so that eventually we were forced to put her in diapers. We knew that she was unhappy and decided that the only humane thing to do was to let her go gently. She passed very quietly with June and I cuddling her and soothing her. It was fairly quick and we believe that she just drifted away as she lost her pain. She was a gallant little dog and never once complained as her illness progressed. She is being cremated.

Her loss has not been as hard to us as that of Volpe had been, probably because, unlike Volpe, she was old, had spent a good life, and we anticipated her time was near.

I think that just about all of you who will receive this e-mail responded to us with condolences, and even cards, when Volpe passed, and for that we offer our sincere thanks....those wishes and heart-felt sympathies helped us greatly.

Love,
Clive and June

Buster

It is with a heavy heart we announce the sudden passing of Buster on October 6, 2009. Buster was rescued from a hoarder, and although he passed away before finding his forever home, he was dearly loved, and had a wonderful few months with his foster family. Rest in peace, Buster. Your friends are waiting for you at the Bridge.

Candy

We have lost another beloved rescue dog. On January 9, 2009, Candy was finally happy in her forever home, when she suddenly had a seizure, and passed away. We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss. Our sincere condolences to Candy's family, and our thanks for giving her a loving home for the last moments of her life.

Desi

HHBCR says farewell to an old friend. Desi, beloved pet of Arlene Haines and Len White, passed away quietly beside her master's chair. She was almost 17 years of age. Desi had a long and wonderful life, and is mother, grandmother and great grandmother to many beautiful accomplished Border Collies.

DESI (CAN-DO'S DESIGN EDITION, HIC, FG)

DOB: December 11, 1993 to September 12, 2009

She ran her first Flyball tournament on April 1, 1995 and her last tournament June 12, 2005 for a total of 104 tournaments.

Our deespest condolences to Len and Arlene.

Derby

Derby passed away tragically on August 21, 2009 at the young age of two.

Flyball dog.

Frisbee Champion.

Flare's best friend.

Poetry in motion.

Sometimes even Ninjas have to go to heaven.

Rest awhile Derby, and Mommy will see you at the Bridge.

I will always love you.

Diva

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of a beautiful dog, Diva, at 10:45 on July 28, 2009. She passed quietly in our arms, in the tender care of our dear friend and vet, Shannon Steuart. It was so peaceful...

Ruth, Don, and their kids for 12 years. She was a devoted girl, who loved to do obedience with Ruth.

Diva was a rescuer herself. She was a blood donor for years... and was always wagging her tail and pleased to be there when she donated.

Diva loved to "hold paws". She would place her paw on your knee when you drove, or place her paw on your foot when you sat watching TV. She loved her swimming pool, and swimming with her Mom doing laps.

Diva, say hi to Shahna for us. Until we meet again...

Leo

On December 7, 2008, Leo succumbed to an unknown illness, probably Blastomycosis. He was only a year old, and never made it into rescue. Leo was 15lbs underweight, starved and abandoned. We tried very hard to save his life, but it was not to happen. We will see you at the Bridge, Leo. May you finally find peace, a place to rest your head, and a loving hand to stroke your beautiful face.

Nana

Two months ago, we brought an older dog named Nana into our rescue. She is in very poor shape. 95 lbs when she should be 45, mostly blind, and barely able to walk due to her weight. We discovered that Nana was hypothyroid, and we began her meds and low cal food, but nothing changed. After another visit to the vet clinic and more blood testing, we were told that Nana was very sick, and there was nothing we could do but give her love and comfort, and send her to Rainbow Bridge.

Nana passed away December 31, 2008 at her home in the tender care of her foster mom Ruth, Sally, and in the gentle hands of our friend and vet, Shannon Steuart.

Olivia

It is with deep sadness that we report the passing of Olivia from cancer on December 14, 2008. Olivia was given a year longer life, and passed away in the arms of her loving family, rather than in a cold and brutal gas shelter. Olivia brought joy to all whose lives she touched, and she will be sadly missed by her adoptive mom and dad.
