Suki

From the family of Suki:

Suki has been a part of our family for the past 9 years. She is about 10 years old. We are unsure of her exact age as we got her at a dog pound and she was a stray who had suffered abuse. She is spayed and all vaccinations are up to date and she is in good health. She is shy and skittish at first but once she gets to know you and feel comfortable with you she has a lot of love to give. She is a very loving dog and will adore you if you give her love and attention. She is not good with other dogs. She would do well in a home with no other dogs and either no kids or older kids.

We have two young children in our family (age 4 and a half and 6) and as the kids and Suki have gotten older our family environment is no longer a good environment for her. We had an incident that has made us have to find a better home for Suki. Our son was pulling on her collar (which he has been told many times not to do) and Suki bit him on his lip. She didn't give any warning when she did this but it wasn't out of aggression, it was a warning. (She is not aggressive towards the kids but has nipped at them and other people in the past).

Suki would do well in the right home environment and has so much love in her to give. She is a very sweet and loyal dog. We would like Suki to live out her golden years with an older person/couple who want a loving companion.

Winston

Click on the photos for a larger view!

Winston is a 10 month old Border Collie/Husky mix. He will soon be neutered and up to date on vaccinations.

His foster Mom says:

Winston is a sweet dog that has shown no aggression. I can put my hands in his food while he eats. He gets along well with other dogs, have not tried him around cats or kids. He is cautious of new people but, warms up to them when he feels safe. He is very smart and curious, and has picked up commands quickly.

He is medium energy, and still has some puppy in him. He plays well and sleeps hard. So far, he is great at fetching the ball, shows interest in Frisbees, is eager to please and has the potential to be great at sports.

He is a great companion and is a little love bug with beautiful eyes and soft fur. He has some laid back tendencies and doesn't bark.

Tasha

Click on the photos for a larger view!

Tasha is a 7 month old Border Collie/Lab mix. She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations and housebroken.

Tasha LOVES to run. She is a bit overweight, but the way she runs, it won't take much to get the weight off her. She is excellent with other dogs and would make a fantastic addition to any family. Tasha would be a great flyball or agility dog. She is smart and has a ton of drive.

Roxy

Click on the photos for a larger view!

Roxy is a Pom/Chihuahua mix between 18 months and 2 years of age. She is spayed, up to date on vaccination and housebroken.

She was saved from a gassing shelter in Missouri. She is very affectionate, friendly and a bundle of energy!

Roxy would make a nice pet for any home, but we do suggest one with older children who know hot to be gentle with dogs.

Reiver

Click on the photos for a larger view!

Reiver is a 3 month old male Border Collie. He will be neutered when he is 6 months old, is up to date on vaccinations and working on his housebreaking and crate training.

Reiver is new to the rescue and we will update as soon as we learn more about this smart little fellow.

Murphy

Click on the photos for a larger view!

Murphy is a 6 year old male Border Collie. He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and housebroken.

Murphy is on the larger end of the Border Collie scale, but he is very gentle and sweet. He is great with kids and other dogs!

Murphy's family moved off His family moved off the farm, and now they would like for Murphy to have a life with a family who can give him more time and more fun in his life. Murphy would make a wonderful addition to any family!

Maisy

Click on the photos for a larger view!

Maisy is an approximately 8 month old female Border Collie mix. She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, housebroken and crate and leash trained.

Maisy is a very loving dog and would like nothing more than a family willing to scratch her belly and rub her chin. She listens very well and has an amazing recall for her name; she will come running as soon as she hears it! She can also sit, lay, fetch, drop it, and a few other tricks. She is working on some new skills and has great potential for learning new things. What's really amazing though is that with all of her puppy energy, she is very calm. She loves to sit by people and snuggle up to them, a perfect mix of puppy play and calm snuggle buddy.

Maisy meets people and they often think it's sad that she doesn't have a tongue. Maisy thinks..."What's a tongue? Why would I need one of those things?!" She does drool some, but only when she is playing or going for a walk, and when she eats. An old washrag takes care of that problem though!

If you spend a day with her you won't want to let her out of your life! She will steal your heart in minutes.

Skye (ADOPTION PENDING)

Click on the photos for a larger view!

Skye is a 1 year old female Border Collie/Golden Retriever mix. She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations and housebroken.

She is a very sweet and cuddly low to medium drive girl who wants nothing more than to please. She now knows "sit" and we are working on recall. As with most puppies, she can be exuberantly happy to see you but she settles down fairly quickly. She is curious about cats but leaves them alone once she says hi. Skye weighs about forty pounds and is a medium size dog. She has no food possessiveness issues and is extremely good natured. She'd make a great family dog.

Penny (ADOPTION PENDING)

Click on the photos for a larger view!

Penny is a 3 year old female Labrador Retriever. She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations and housebroken.

Penny is an absolute joy to be around. She's constantly wagging and loves attention. She's completely house trained, gets along well with other dogs and is gentle with kids. The idea of "cats" is very interesting to her but we don't know how she'd be in a home with one just yet.

She knows sit and shake but we're working on stay and come. She walks well on a leash and jogs really well if you're doing about a 9 minute mile. Penny shows no signs of food or toy aggression with people, but this sweet little girl will not be a push over with the canine-boys she's currently living with.

If you're looking for a companion that will be by your side constantly and just love to be around you, then Penny is your girl!

Barkley

Click on the photos for a larger view!

Barkley is a 2 year old male Border Collie mix. He is neutered and up to date on vaccinations.

He is very active, and has a great recall for off-leash romps at the park! He is very friendly with other dogs, curious about cats, and we are told he is great around children. He loves to snuggle!

Barkley will be a great addition to a family that will keep him busy.

Huey

Click on the photos for a larger view!

Huey is a 5 month old male German Shepherd mix. He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and is working on his housebreaking and crate training.

Poor Huey was found in a culvert and was saved from euthanasia by HHBCR. He is a very sweet boy and loves affection. Coming from the streets, he is a bit skittish. In just a short time, he is really starting to become like most other young pups.

He is learning slowly about leashes and is slightly intimidated by them. Once leashed, he is okay but is still learning leash manners. He will hunker down to the ground when big buses or trucks go by.

Huey loves squeaky toys and, being an energetic young puppy, will need lots of chew toys so he does not chew on the wrong things. He gets along fine with other dogs and cats.

Huey will be a bigger dog and will require and owner that is willing to give him a safe and warm place to call home.

Heidi

Click on the photos for a larger view!

Heidi is a 6 year old female Border Collie. She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations and housebroken.

Poor Heidi lived in a terrible place where she was kicked and punched, and yet, she does not fear humans. It is unbelievable, but Heidi is the epitome of forgiveness, love and grace. She is a little overweight, low energy and happy to go for nice walks. She is the perfect pet. Heidi deserves a wonderful home where she will be given love and regular walks. I cannot say enough about this beautiful dog.

Echo (ADOPTION PENDING)

Click on the photos for a larger view!

Echo is a tiny 6 month old female Australian Shepherd mix weighing in at about 25lbs. She is up to date on vaccinations, has had no accidents and is crate trained.

Echo is a very sweet, low energy puppy. She doesn't care about toys, but cares very much about cuddles and loves. We don't think she would be too much of a sport dog. She seems to be a fragile sort of girl.

Karma (ADOPTION PENDING)

Click on the photos for a larger view!

Karma is about 2 years old, and is either a very tall single breed female Border Collie, or a mix of Border Collie and ROugh Collie. She will be spayed soon and is up to date on vaccinations.

Karma is a beautiful dog, and very sweet. She knows a lot of basic commands, and gets along well with other dogs. Initially upon meeting other dogs while on leash, she pulls and makes a lot of noise, but once she is free to run with the others, she is fine. Karma would do well at agility but has no interest in toys. She is food motivated.

Poet

Click on the photos for a larger view!

Poet is a 6 month old Australian Shepherd. He is up to date on vaccinations, housebroken (he has not had a single accident in the house!) and crate trained.

Poet is what is known as a "Lethal White", the result of breeding two merles together, which often produces deaf, blind or deaf AND blind puppies.

Poet appears to see quite well, but we know he is deaf. He is very gentle and sweet, loving as all get out! He LOVES cuddles. He also loves other dogs, but is a little rough in his puppy play with small ones. He is teething, so he will need to be watched.

Due to his deafness, Poet will need an owner who can work with him and teach him hand signals. He learns these very quickly, as he is a very smart pup. He also needs sunscreen on his little pink nose to avoid burn.

Sonny & Moon

Sonny

Click on the photos for a larger view!

Sonny and Moon are 8 week old Shepherd mix puppies. They will be altered when they are 6 months old, are up to date on vaccinations (dewormed, first vaccines, Revolution for ticks and heartworm) and working on housebreaking and crate training.

Sonny is the male, and Moon is the female. Both are sweet and shy, but sure to come out of their shells with love.

Rex (ADOPTION PENDING)

Click on the photos for a larger view!

Rex is a 10 week old male mixed breed puppy who was rescued from a reserve in Manitoba. He is likely a Rottie/Collie mix. He will be neutered when he is 6 months, is up to date on vaccinations and working on housebreaking and crate training.

He is very sweet and loves kids. He is good with cats and other dogs. Rex will be a very big boy.

Rex would very much like to have a family of his own who will love him and let him be a family member just like he is in his foster home.

Lucien (FOSTER HOME NEEDED ASAP) & Flurry

Click on the photos for a larger view!

Flurry and Lucien are brothers, and they are very sweet boys. These two fellows are most likely Border Collie/Newfoundland mixes. They are NOT SMALL, and they will grow up to be VERY big boys. At three months of age, they are around 25-30 lbs already, so if you are wanting a big dog, one of these lads would be right for you. They are VERY gentle, very laid back. If you pick them up, they go floppy in your arms and enjoy being loved on. They are, however, puppies, and they need to be potty trained and they need to have things to chew on. They get along with other dogs very well.

Both dogs would do well in a family with kids, other dogs and cats.

We don't recommend adopting siblings, so these dogs do NOT need to be adopted together. They are in separate foster homes.

Flurry is the lighter greyish lad, and Lucien is the dark lad. Both boys have white tipped tails and toes like a Border Collie. They will be neutered when they are old enough.

Mandolyn

Click on the photos for a larger view!

Mandoyln is a 3 year old Border Collie mix. She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, housebroken and crate trained.

Mandy has begun to FLOURISH in her new foster home! She has learned how to walk on leash, even being led by a little girl! Mandy is now ready to be adopted by a family who will understand her shyness with strangers. She is very sweet and loving, and loves to play ball, but returning the ball, well...that's another story!

Rusher

Click on the photos for a larger view!

Rusher is a 4 year old male Border Collie, who might have some Scotch Collie in him. He is neutered and had his shots and is heartworm negative. Rusher is just now recovering from hip surgery, and will have one more to go when he is able. He would love to have a family of his own to help him through recovery.

A note from Rusher's foster mom:

I think that Rusher has an excellent disposition, sweet, gentle and even tempered. He is a little shy and reserved when he meets new people, but warms up once he is used to them. Rusher is definitely very good with other dogs, and enjoys their companionship. He is also good with the cats he has met at the Vet's office.

In the past month that I have fostered him, he has not played with a single toy, doesn't seem at all to know what they are. The noise of the squeaky toys seems to frighten him. Rusher does not play fetch; he is more of a couch potato.

He is very happy to go for a nice walk and meet the neighbours and their dogs and walk with them. Rusher also enjoys car rides, the dog park and being with his people. He has a very loving nature.

I used the crate initially, but now that he is housebroken (no marking), I generally don't put him into it very often.

Darwin

Click on the photos for a larger view!

Darwin is another one fo the Elma rescues. He is a 5 or 6 year old Border Collie mix. He is neutered and up to date on vaccinations.

He is very gentle and sweet. He is not terrible on a leash, but will require some work. He gets along well with other dogs. We are not sure about cats.

Darwin would make a nice family pet for people who just want a pal, not a sport dog.

Ghost (ADOPTION PENDING)

Click on the photo for a larger view!

Ghost is an 11 month old Border Collie female. She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, housebroken and working on her crate training.

Ghost was pulled from a shelter in Missouri, US. She was abandoned and left to die at the shelter because her owners didn't want her anymore. It has been discovered she has bilateral hip dysplasia, and requires two surgeries that will cost just under $2000. The cost of this surgery will be covered by the rescue.

We are looking for a patient and loving home that can give her a nice, warm place to recuperate and recover after her surgery.

UPDATE! March 9, 2010

Ghost has had one hip repaired so far, plus her spay surgery. She is recovering at her foster mom Rebecca's home, surrounded by lots of love and care. Thank you to those wonderful supporters who have donated towards Ghost's vet bill, Cathy Kelly, Tracy Baldwin and Denise Anobis. Your help means the world to a little dog who was going to die because nobody wanted to pay to have her hips fixed. Without your help, we couldn't do this kind of rescue!

In 8 weeks, Ghost will have her second surgery. She is SUCH a good girl!

See Ghost's page for new photos!
